Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy

Overview
Overview

The Division of Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy provides the pediatric cancer care for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). The SCCA brings together the adult and pediatric oncology programs of Seattle Children’s Hospital, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) and the University of Washington Medical Center. The dedicated pediatric specialists moved into a new in-patient unit in April 2013, expanding to a 48-bed Cancer Care Unit (CCU). Annually, we see more than 280 new patients, including international referrals

Clinical Programs

The Hematology/Oncology Clinic offers multiple specialty services, including a bone tumor clinic, bone marrow transplant services, hematologic and sickle cell disease clinics, a multidisciplinary solid tumor oncology clinic, a neuro-oncology clinic, surgical oncology care, palliative care and radiation therapy.

Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary team of pediatric cancer experts treats more than 280 children, adolescents, and young adults with newly diagnosed or recurrent cancer every year, more than any other institution in the region..

We encourage families to coordinate with their primary care pediatrician or family physician when coming to Children’s specialists. To schedule an appointment, call 206-987-2106.

Research Programs

Our research activities to improve cancer treatment encompass internationally recognized programs at Children’s, the University of Washington and FHCRC. These activities have been responsible for the development of widely used clinical treatments, including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and novel targeted therapy for treating acute myelogenous leukemia, brain tumors, and neuroblastoma.

Education and Training Programs

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program was established in 1969. Fellows receive training and experience in both basic research and clinical research throughout the three years of training. Each fellow has an individualized research program. The available programs at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington and Children’s represent a wide variety of research opportunities. Research projects are tailored to meet the needs of individual fellows depending on their interests, previous training and experience.
