UW Pediatrics promotes working safe and working smart in our office and lab environments.
Keys
Email pedsfac@uw.edu for key needs. Please provide 1) your name, 2) the lab or office you work in, and 3) the room or rooms to which you need access.

Back to topFacilities Requests
Sink dripping? Roof leaking? Floor tiles coming loose? Email pedsfac@uw.edu with details of your problem. Include 1) a description of the issue, 2) the location, and 3) any relevant details. A work order through UW Facilities will be entered, tracked, and followed up on.
Back to topAutoclave/Glass Washing
Pediatrics provides its labs with an autoclave and glass washing facility. JoAnn and Hung, our lab technicians, make daily rounds picking up and dropping off to all our labs in the RR-wing. They can also help you with hazardous waste disposal problems, laundry, and chemical spills. Send questions to pedsfac@uw.edu
Back to topRequired Safety Training
Visit the Environmental Health and Safety site for templates for laboratory specific safety information in your Laboratory Safety Manual, including training.
- Biosafety Training must be renewed every three years, and is mandatory for all staff who come in contact with any form of recombinant DNA (including transgenic animals and plants), pathogenic microorganisms, human / non-human primate tissues (including cell lines), or other biohazardous agents. Use the UW site to determine which safety trainings are required based on your laboratory research.
- General Asbestos Awareness Training must be completed by all UW Staff.
View your trainings on the EHS site, and see which trainings you have completed and whether they are current.
Back to topEquipment
Equipment is all around us. Anything purchased by the UW that's used in our labs and offices is considered equipment and is the property of the UW. If you have old items to get rid of, do not throw them away in the trash. Anything remotely usable can be sent to UW Surplus.
Items $5000 or more are tagged with barcode inventory stickers. These items are tracked by the University and cannot be sold, given away, thrown away, or transferred to a different institution without prior approval from the Equipment Inventory Office. Send an email to pedsfac@uw.edu before taking any action with these tagged items.
Pediatrics also has surplus events to encourage all our labs and offices to clean out their clutter. If you have items for surplus, email pedsfac@uw.edu. Depending on your situation we can possibly redistribute usable items, arrange a private pick up, or collect your items for our annual group event.
Back to topEquipment Insurance
The UW offers equipment insurance through the Risk Management office, insuring many types of equipment including computers, lab equipment, electronics, and more. The coverage protects against theft, vandalism, fire, flood, and other natural disasters. Rates and deductibles vary. Find out more information on the Risk Management website. If you have questions, or would like to open a new insurance policy, email pedsfac@uw.edu.
