Dr. Zimmerman is the former Chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine and Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Seattle Children’s Hospital. He attends in the Pediatric Intensive Care Units at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Zimmerman and is a member of the Steering Committee for the Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the Institute of Translational Health Sciences Scientific Success Committee. Dr. Zimmerman, is co-editor of the textbook Pediatric Critical Care, now in its 6th edition. His research is focused on diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of pediatric septic shock, as well as metabolic aspects of critical illness in general. Dr. Zimmerman was a charter principal investigator for the Pediatric Critical Care Research Network and was also a founding member of the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators (PALISI) group. He is a Co-principal investigator for the Stress Hydrocortisone In Pediatric Septic Shock (SHIPSS, NCT03401398) randomized controlled trial.  Dr. Zimmerman is a past-president Of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. He additionally received a Distinguished Career Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics Critical Care Section.
