Dr. McGuire is the Chief for the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He attends in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Seattle Children’s Hospital and in the Pediatric Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Unit. Work in his laboratory in the University of Washington Center for Lung Biology is directed at understanding how epithelial responses to acute injury and infection regulate repair and resolution of inflammation. Related projects are focused on elucidating the role of matrix metalloproteinases in viral and bacterial lung infections. These studies receive funding from the National Institutes of Health, The American Heart Association, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dr. McGuire serves as a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Board of Appeals Panel for Pediatrics and as a reviewer for the American Heart Association Research Program and several journals.
