Dr. Mendoza is a UW professor of pediatrics and adjunct professor of health services. He teaches and practices general pediatrics at Harborview Medical Center in the pediatric clinic, a county safety-net clinic. Dr. Mendoza has devoted his career to promoting equity in physical activity and healthy eating among low-income and racial/ethnic minority children. He also leads research on using wearable physical activity trackers and social media groups to promote physical activity among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. He has another line of research examining the influence of food insecurity (i.e., hunger) on youth and young adults with diabetes. His research has been extramurally funded by the National Institutes of Health (NCI, NIDDK, NHLBI), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and St. Baldrick's Foundation. He also leads research on the influence of food insecurity (i.e., hunger) on youth and young adults with diabetes.
