Happy Pride Month

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month celebrated to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a pivotal moment for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.

In June of 1969, a police raid on a gay bar in Greenwich Village sparked a turning point, prompting the patrons and community to unite against oppression and discrimination. As the protest extended into the neighborhood, lesbian and transgender individuals who were imprisoned at the Women’s House of Detention voiced their support from behind bars, encouraging the protestors in the streets below.

Initially a single day, Pride celebrations have expanded to encompass a month-long series of events in major cities nationwide. These events include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia, and concerts, attracting millions of participants worldwide. Read more
