Observing Veterans Day

Veterans Day

Each year on November 11, Veterans Day is observed to honor those who have bravely sacrificed for our freedoms. This significant day traces its origins back to November 11, 1921, when an unknown soldier from World War I was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. The date was chosen because it marks the anniversary of the cessation of hostilities in World War I, which took place at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

On Monday, November 11, the University will host its annual ceremony to honor veterans from both the local community and across the nation who have served in the United States military. This event serves as a meaningful occasion for the community to express gratitude to veterans and their families for their bravery and dedication.

Community members are encouraged to participate in the ceremony and to take part in the various Veterans Appreciation Week events occurring throughout the three campuses leading up to the ceremony.
