Remembering to acknowledge valuable contributions helps build a sense of community and strengthen teams. This includes Service Awards celebrating long-term commitments and the University’s highest honors for staff: the Distinguished Staff Awards and the Thorud Leadership Award.
UW Service Recognition Program
The University of Washington has established the Service Recognition Program to acknowledge the continuous years of dedicated service of all regular contract-covered, classified, and professional staff, as well as intermittent classified staff. Staff members are honored for every five years of continuous service (for example, 5, 10, 15 years, and so on).
UW Human Resources (UWHR) collaborates with HR to inform managers about upcoming milestone service awards. This allows them to choose a service award before their milestone anniversary.
Managers
Managers can survey their own teams to learn the preferred methods of recognition. While some team members may favor subtle forms of recognition, others may value public acknowledgment. The recognition profile below can help gather this information.
